TRINIDAD NOTES: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…



Trinidad Civic Club presents its annual Christmas Tea on Thursday, Dec. 6 starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Club Room, Town Hall.
President Kathleen Duncan and Betty Nicklas have selected a Christmas Angel theme for the fancy tea, to which all members and guests are invited. Music by Trinidad School singers and Al Macy accompanying some surprise guests. Past presidents of the volunteer service organization will be honored.
Members please bring savory or sweet treats to share. If you’re bringing guests, kindly call 677-0222 to inform hostesses.

‘A Taste of Success’
at Larrupin’ Cafe

Joey Wauters, Anne Odom and other Christmas elves have been busy finalizing plans for “A Taste of Success,” the Trinidad Library Building Fund celebration starting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Larrupin’ Cafe.
Here are some of the Tapa delicacies awaiting you celebrants: appetizer board, Claudia’s herbed fresh persimmons, coconut prawns with Thai-chili and mango salsa, barbecued Humboldt Bay oysters, asparagus and fresh mozzarella wrapped in proscuitto, truffled macaroni and cheese, barbecued pork ribs, sauteed portobello mushrooms with braising greens and clam chowder. Jazz standards by Al Macy. $40 per person. Beverages extra. Most reservations have come in, but last minute ones may be made by calling 677-5089 or 677-3816.
Library Director Kenzie Mullen will give tours of the under-construction library at Janis Court and Patrick’s Point Drive from 4 to 5 prior to the celebration.
The end-of-year Founding Family campaign has been a great success with David and Sharon Winnett, Dan and Dorothy Cox, George and Bertha Herd, Anonymous, Gail Saunders, Dr. Ronald and Gloria Speigle, Roland and Nedra Johnson, Dr. Johnathan J. Choi, Peter Van Aylea (Trinidad Chevron), Roy and Marilyn Tucker, and Michael and Ann Pinske adding their names to the permanent plaque list with contributions of $500 or more in the past few days. All funds are deposited at Humboldt Area Foundation. Children’s Arts and Crafts Workshop

Join Debbie Dew and the gang for an afternoon of Holiday Fun on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at WCA, 501 South Westhaven Drive. All ages welcome. Parents too. Space is limited so please reserve a spot by calling 677-9493. Free. Snack provided.

Humboldt Talent Showcase

Local artists will be featured at the Humboldt Talent Showcase on Friday, Dec. 14 from 6 to 10 p.m. at WCA. Sign up by calling Mark Noyes at 362-1150. Refreshments. Sliding scale $2 to $5 at the door.

WCA’s Holiday Open House

All are welcome to join holiday festivities at WCA on Sunday, Dec. 16 starting at 5:30 p.m. Bring a side dish, hot or cold, to share and a salad or dessert. WCA will provide turkey, hot spiced cider, eggnog, plates and utensils. It’s a family affair, open to all.

Trinidad Holiday Ball

The Greater Trinidad Chamber of Commerce presents its annual Trinidad Holiday Ball on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m., Trinidad Town Hall. Dress up. $30 per guest. Chamber members, guests, and all of Trinidad are invited to take part. This event always is a joyous tribute to the spirit of enterprise and volunteerism in the community at large.
