Weather update

Raw from the NWS in Eureka:

SYNOPSIS…A WARM FRONT WILL BRING A CHANCE OF RAIN TO THE
NORTH COAST REGION TODAY. A NEW PACIFIC STORM WILL SEND A
PLUME OF MOISTURE INTO THE AREA LATE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY.
PERIODIC RAIN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

&&

.DISCUSSION…RADAR IMAGERY SHOWED A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS OFFSHORE THE
NORTH COAST EARLY THIS MORNING HEADING GENERALLY NE. SHOWERS WILL BE
MOST FREQUENT AND INTENSE NORTH OF KACV AIRPORT THIS MORNING…WITH
PERHAPS SPOTTY LIGHT RAIN ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NORTH COAST. THE WARM
FRONT WILL LIFT NORTHWARD THIS AFTERNOON AND LEAVE BEHIND ONLY A
SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT SHOWERS.

THE BREAK IN DRY WEATHER IS NOT EXPECTED TO LAST LONG. SATELLITE
DATA SHOWED HIGH PWATS FROM THE SUBTROPICS BEING ENTRAINED INTO
THE NEXT STORM EXPECTED TO AFFECT NW CA LATE THU NIGHT INTO
FRIDAY. MOISTURE WILL LIKELY CONTINUE TO PUMP NORTHWARD TODAY WITH
PWATS OF 1.0-1.5 INCH DIRECTED TOWARDS NW CA BY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.
STRONG SOUTHWESTERLY AND WESTERLY FLOW ON FRIDAY WILL MAKE FOR GOOD
OROGRAPHIC LIFTING OF THE MOIST AIR MASS. HIGHER ELEVATION SITES
OF DEL NORTE AND HUMBOLDT COUNTIES MAYL SEE AN INCH OF RAIN. THIS
SYSTEM LACKS STRONG DYNAMICS…SO THE COAST WILL PROBABLY RECEIVE
NO MORE THAN HALF AN INCH THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. THIS STORM IS
GOING TO BE WARM. THEREFORE EXPECT NO SNOWFALL ON THE MOUNTAIN
PASSES AND ROAD SURFACES. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR ROCK, MUD AND
DEBRI SLIDES. LATEST RUN OF THE GFS HAS YET ANOTHER SURGE OF MOIST
AIR AND RAIN HITTING THE AREA ON SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT. NOT TOO
CONFIDENT IN THIS SCENARIO AT THIS TIME. PRECIP CHANCES MAY NEED
TO BE BEEFED IF THIS TREND CONTINUES. LIKEWISE FOR MONDAY THE NEW
RUN OF THE GFS WAS WET AGAIN AND PRECIP CHANCE MAY NEED TO BE BOOSTED.
TUE AND WED WERE LOOKING DRY AT THE MOMENT AND WILL KEEP PRECIP
CHANCES UNDER MID APRIL NORMALS (20-30%). DJB
