Man tries to escape deputies via river

From the HCSO:

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man yesterday evening after he fled from them and ran into the Trinity River near Willow Creek. At about 5:45 p.m. were called to a reported physical fight between a man and a woman on the near the Humboldt/Trinity County line. When they arrived, deputies attempted to contact the man but he jumped over the embankment and ran down toward the river. Deputies pursued the man, Brian Simon, 27 of Willow Creek. Simon ran along the river’s edge, entering into the water several times. Deputies were assisted in the foot pursuit by CHP Officers and a US Forest Service Officer. Eventually a deputy spotted Simon lying in the river with his propped on a rock along the riverbank. The deputy ordered Simon to surrender himself but Simon refused. After Simon failed to comply several times, the deputy deployed his Tazer. Simon was then taken into custody. Simon was transported to a local hospital where medical staff cleared him for booking. He was booked for resisting or obstructing a peace officer, public intoxication and an outstanding bench warrant.

Isn’t this the third such instance of folks evading the cops by jumping in water bodies in as many weeks? And two resulting in deaths.

There was the guy in Arcata who died in a creek. And there was someone who jumped in the Eel.
