I used to think the same thing, but it turns out there’s a good reason for the name. It all began as a horse race between McKinleyville and Fieldbrook. The riders carried satchels, and they called it the Pony Express race. Then it turned into a community festival. So there’s actually a logical reason for the name. FYI.
