There was a large fire this afternoon at the north end of Walker Avenue off Railroad Drive in McKinleyville. Details are still a little sketchy, but it appeared that several sheds were on fire. Access was difficult, with fences all around the property. In the photo above, firefighters are dousing the flames from Kirkwood Court off Theil Avenue. By about 3:30 p.m. the fire was out and firefighters began mop up operations, which were expected to last a couple hours. More details to come…

Perhaps it was a result of the continuous use of illegal fireworks in this neighborhood. People haven’t figured out yet that aside from personal injury, fire hazards are another reason those fireworks are illegal to begin with.
