The Humboldt County Department of Public Works holds an open house at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at Azalea Hall in McKinleyville to present to the public the proposed School Road Improvement Project from U.S. Highway 101 to Bugenig Lane.
This multi-phase project is a partnership between private development, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the County of Humboldt to bring long awaited improvements to this section of School Road.
The first phase of this multi-year project is anticipated to begin construction in April 2011.
The project includes widening of School Road. A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of School Road/Salmon Avenue/the future extension of McKinleyville Avenue.
Bike lanes and sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of the road from Bugenig Lane to Windsor Avenue. A two way left turn lane will be constructed in the median. In addition, existing overhead utilities will be placed underground.
I’ll be among the first to applaud a roundabout instead of stop signs…to bad it comes in conjunction with plans to seriously increase all things traffic.
